Chris Hemsworth's "Thor: Ragnarok" is a massive hit at the international box office.

A week before the film's release in the United States, "Thor: Ragnarok" is already breaking records. On Sunday, Disney announced that the Marvel superhero flick has already crossed this year's $4 billion box office threshold globally, Variety reported. In fact, it's the only movie to surpass the threshold for the last five years.

Initially, the third installment of the "Thor" franchise was only expected to make $85 million to $100 million due to its non-traditional Tuesday opening in the United Kingdom. However, the film made $107.6 million in 52 percent of the overseas market. It was four percent ahead of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and 22 percent above "Doctor Strange," Deadline reported. The publication added that it is the biggest October opening weekend in many markets.

"Thor: Ragnarok's" biggest market is the UK where it made $15.8 million. In fact, it now holds the record for the biggest October opening for a movie in the country except for the "James Bond" films. It also earned millions in South Korea ($15.5 million), Australia ($8.4 million), Brazil ($8.3 million) and France ($7.4 million).

Hemsworth's co-star, Mark Ruffalo, who plays The Incredible Hulk in the Marvel franchise, was initially worried about the film's comedic approach. According to the "Zodiac" star, what they did in "Thor: Ragnarok" was very different from their "Avengers" films.

"You know how many times I was like, are we breaking the Marvel universe? We threw everything out!" Ruffalo told Collider (via ComicBook). "We started all over again with this. We threw the 'Thor' franchise out. We threw everyone's perception of Banner out. We threw everyone's perception of Hulk out. We threw everyone's perception of Thor out."

Well, it seemed that director Taika Waititi made a smart choice in making a change in the recent "Thor" film because moviegoers loved it and the actors enjoyed what they did. "Yes, we knew what we were doing and at the same time were like, 'let's just do it. And let's go for it. And let's do it in the best and the most honest and fun way that we possibly can,'" Ruffalo added. "And Taika did that, and he wasn't afraid of that. To have that rebel mentality going into it… We improvised a lot. We played. He created a space where we could just play. And we were making jokes, and he would throw a joke in, and then that would turn into another joke… That playfulness is really appealing on the screen."

"Thor: Ragnarok" premieres in the U.S. on Nov. 3.
