KEY POINTS

  • "Titans" Season 3 could lead to spin-offs
  • DC is building content for HBO Max
  • The TV series is suppoed to be released later this year

“Titans” Season 3 could be huge for the franchise. Not only will the show help expand the DC Universe with new characters from the comics, it will also help create new shows based on some of these superheroes.

Speaking to Business Insider, a former Digital Labs employee said that the studio executives are considering spin-offs based on the popular superhero show. The success of the TV series means that there is enough “commitment and funding” for it to continue for some time into the future.

Although a spin-off is being considered, there is nothing concrete in development just yet. According to the former employee, they want to keep the superhero franchise around, but they want to “keep it small.”

The focus of the studio is to build content for HBO Max. DC comics will be a part of the new streaming platform, but they will need more exclusive content to make it attractive for consumers to subscribe to the service.

Warner Media’s HBO Max is set to take on Netflix when it is launched on May 27 for $14.99. There has been a lot of emphasis on the DC comics, and according to the former employee, the company is still figuring out a strategy for the video content that will be based on the comics.

“Titans” Season 3 has already been confirmed and it was originally scheduled to air sometime in 2020. The show will be one of the key components of the strategy for DC video content. Blackfire (Damaris Lewis) will be the main villain of the show when it returns, Screen Rant reported.

Deathstroke (Esai Morales) has been the main villain on the show in Season 2, and according to CBR the producers may choose to bring the character back at some point in the future. The TV series will introduce bigger villains, but they may want to keep Deathstroke around as a secondary antagonist because the fans loved Morales’ portrayal, and the character’s rivalry with the heroes has been an important part of the comics as well.

“Titans” Season 3 could have aired in September if the coronavirus hadn’t struck. The producers may announce an exact release date after the lockdown ends.
