Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are happy with their relationship. However, despite their engagement, the couple isn’t rushing to get married. During a conversation with Oprah Winfrey at the 2020 Vision: Your Life In Focus Tour, the 50-year-old reflected on her future marriage to the retired baseball player.

Rodriguez proposed to Lopez in March 2019, a little more than two years after the couple had been dating. Although it has almost been a year since their engagement, Lopez insisted the two weren’t in a hurry to walk down the aisle.

The “Ain’t Your Mama” singer told Oprah that they planned to take their time when it comes to planning their wedding. “It’s so funny because when we first got engaged, I was like, ‘Oh, we’re going to get married in a couple of months,’ ” she told Winfrey.

“Like your old thinking comes right back, like all that hopeless romantic that made me get married three times. [It all] came like rushing back, and then I was like, ‘Wait if we’re going to be together for the rest of it’ — he’s like, ‘Whatever you want to do like we can talk about it,’” Lopez continued.

Lopez revealed the engagement forced her to think about the depth of their relationship, and how it should move forward. “I said, ‘If we’re going to be together for the rest of our lives, what is the rush?’” Lopez pondered.

“If that’s what we’re really going to do, if we’re really going to be partners, if we’re really going to try to build something together that we both never had or never felt like we had, which is a family with a husband and a wife, and a mother and father, and we embrace all our children. We show them it’s something that we didn’t have,” she said.

Although Lopez and Rodriquez haven’t ironed out all of their wedding plans, the couple does plan to make the event a family affair. An insider told People that their children from previous relationships will be involved in the ceremony.

Lopez shares 12-year-old twins, Maximilian “Max” David and Emme Maribe with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Meanwhile, Rodriguez is father to daughters Ella Alexander, 11, and Natasha Alexander, 15.
