Twitter users have mixed opinions after Pope Francis declined to bless same-sex marriage, with many attacking the Catholic Church for the pedophile issues against some priests.

Pope Francis made a statement in the past about same-sex couples as part of a family unit where he acknowledged their right to have a family. That's why many were disappointed when he called same-sex marriage a "sin." Several Twitter users shared their thoughts on the matter on the microblogging site, with many calling Pope Francis a hypocrite.

"The hypocrisy of this statement by @Pontifex. The #CatholicChurch won’t bless #samesex marriages," Suzanne Smith, a six-time Walkley Award winner and author of "The Altar Boys," tweeted.

"Pope Francis: Catholic priests cannot bless same sex marriages. The Vatican decree leaves many LGBTQ people feeling disappointed, disheartened and upset," Joe Torres, host of "Tiempo" and anchor of WABC-TV "Eyewitness News," added.

"Pedophilia still a-ok tho in the church," a third user wrote.

"Yet they condone molestation of young boys by not turning priests in to the authorities," a fourth user wrote.

"Wow...and just when I thought the Church was getting more inclusive they slam that door and hide in their archaic closets!!!!!!" a fourth user added.

"But they cool with banging little boys and covering it up," a fifth netizen wrote.

Meanwhile, many said the church has not changed, so they were not surprised by Pope Francis' statement anymore.

"What else is new! They wonder why young people are leaving in droves!! This is why LGBTQ + people want nothing to do with the church. The way they go after minorities and the HYPOCRISY is getting old," one wrote.

"The church has never really changed. It's the same old group trying to control everyone's lives and hoarding wealth and hiding the activities of it's leadership," another added.

Despite the backlash, many also supported Pope Francis' decision. For them, his decision was appropriate because they agreed that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

"In full agreement with them. God had a reason to create Eve after Adam," one commented.

"Finally, some spine. God bless the Pope," one wrote.

"That's the right thing to do by the Church. It's correct and the difference must be clear," Daniel Nyagwara commented.
