"Fast and Furious" fans have mixed opinions about Dwayne Johnson's response to Vin Diesel's invitation to return to the movie franchise.

Diesel, 54, publicly asked Johnson to rejoin "Fast and Furious" in an Instagram post back in November, saying that the "time has come" for him to reprise his role as Luke Hobbs.

However, the "Black Adam" star, 49, revealed in an interview with CNN published Wednesday that during a private conversation back in June, he turned down Diesel's invitation and made it clear that he has no plans to return to the franchise. Johnson also described Diesel's move as "an example of his manipulation" and said he believes the other actor should have left his children and the late Paul Walker out of the post.

Johnson's latest statement sparked another round of debate among "Fast and Furious" fans on Twitter, with some saying they still hope to see him in the final movie of the franchise while others criticized Diesel for making his invitation public.

"The Rock is bigger than this series now. The series would benefit from him being in it but he is fine without it," one wrote.

"[Diesel] was trying to socially pressure Dwayne Johnson to rejoin after Dwayne said no. That's pretty dumb," another wrote. "You never piss people off who have a mic and a bigger audience than you."

A third fan, however, commented, "You don’t turn your back on family."

"Johnson's ego and arrogance won't allow him and Diesel to occupy the same space...There is something off-putting to me about D. Johnson," another claimed.

Some Twitter users said that "Fast and Furious" will be fine without Johnson, while others suggested that the franchise should have ended after Walker, who played Brian O'Conner, died in 2013.

"I like [Dwayne Johnson], but with or without him, it's not the same anyway without Paul. Having the original gang is when [Fast and Furious] was at its best," one person commented.

"People will still watch it with or without The Rock, 'cause Paul Walker is watching over his brother Vin and the cast," another Twitter user wrote.

Meanwhile, one fan had a suggestion for Diesel, tweeting, "All Vin Diesel needs to do is set the next 'Fast and Furious' in the jungle and I guarantee you The Rock will rejoin."

Johnson and Diesel previously worked together on "Fast Five," "Fast & Furious 6" and "Furious 7" but had a falling-out when they filmed the eighth installment, "The Fate of the Furious," in 2016. Following their beef, Johnson never returned to the franchise, though he starred in his own 2019 spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw."

Johnson and Diesel's feud first came to light in 2016 when the former called a few of his male "Fast and Furious" co-stars unprofessional in a since-deleted Instagram post, which fans quickly speculated was about Diesel.

During a July interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson had also made it clear that he was not interested in making an appearance in the last two "Fast and Furious" films.

"I’ve wished them well," he told THR. "I wish them well on 'Fast 9.' And I wish them the best of luck on 'Fast 10' and 'Fast 11' and the rest of the 'Fast & Furious' movies they do that will be without me."

"Fast and Furious 10" will start filming in January and is scheduled to be released on April 7, 2023.
