KEY POINTS

  • Type 2 diabetes has a lot of symptoms, and some of them are already known
  • There is one symptom after a meal that you may overlook
  • When you feel hungry even after having eaten, you may be suffering from type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes has become a global problem, with millions of people around the world affected every year. One of the primary culprits as to why a lot of people nowadays suffer from the condition is the fact that they were unable to detect the symptoms when they became manifest.

Aside from the fact that a test run by a doctor or a home test will show whether your blood sugar is high, there are other symptoms that could signal a red flag. One of these is the feeling or sensation that you will experience after eating.

Post-Meal Hunger

It may sound contradictory, but feeling those hunger pangs or a craving for food after you have already finished your meal must make you anxious. According to health experts, this type of hunger is called polyphagia and is regarded as “excess hunger.” This is a common sign of having type 2 diabetes.

For individuals who don’t suffer from type 2 diabetes, the cells are able to derive sufficient amounts of glucose, convert it into energy for the different parts of the body to use. Those with type 2 diabetes won’t be able to do it properly. The cells wouldn’t be able to absorb glucose efficiently, and the body treats it as if it still lacks the fuel that it needs to properly provide energy to the body. Hence, the body still feels that it is still hungry.

The worse thing about type 2 diabetes is that even if you have already eaten additional food, you feel that your craving has not been satisfied at all. So as you consume more food, your blood sugar just keeps on increasing.

Other Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms

Aside from excessive hunger pangs even after a meal, other symptoms that you need to watch out for include fatigue, frequent urination, abnormal thirst, itchiness in the genital area, yeast infections, slow healing of wounds and a blurred vision.

If you feel any of these symptoms, it would be best for you to have your blood sugar levels checked. Remember that being able to treat it and control it will always be to your advantage.
