Eight people from a family in Enoch, Utah, were found dead with gunshot wounds inside their home.

The bodies of the three adults and five minors were found Wednesday by cops who were conducting a welfare check at the residence, Reuters reported.

"Each appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds. At this time, we do not believe there is a threat to the public or that there are any suspects at large," city officials said in a press release. "This investigation is still active and more information will be provided at a later time."

The Iron County School District sent a letter to parents following the gruesome discovery and confirmed that eight deceased individuals were found Wednesday afternoon.

"Eight members of a family residing in Enoch with five students in our schools tragically passed away," the letter read, as quoted by KSL.com.

"This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school district, especially our students," the letter continued. "We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child as needed."

Students, parents and school employees will have access to a crisis intervention team as well as counselors, the district said.

Gov. Spencer Cox and Utah Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson acknowledged the deaths of the family members on social media.

The city manager for Enoch, Rob Dotson, spoke about the tragic incident and said it is unclear why it had occurred, KUTV reported.

The community knew the family and "is feeling remorse, feeling pain, they're friends, and family members and neighbors who are hurting because of this incident," Dotson told the outlet.

"We all know this family. Many of us have served with them in church and community and gone to school with these individuals and so this community at this time is hurting; they're feeling loss, they're feeling pain, they have a lot of questions," Dotson added.

Further details about the deaths were not released. A spokesperson for the Enoch Police Department said more information would be available Thursday morning.

In an incident reported in July 2018, 11 members of a family in India were found dead in their home in the national capital, Delhi. The bodies of 10 people were found hanging from the ceiling while the grandmother, who was the oldest in the joint family, was found strangled. The deaths were considered mass suicide fueled by a shared delusion, as the cops also found a book that seemed to be a journal of bizarre religious beliefs with detailed descriptions of how the hanging should be done.
