“Valorant” will not be released in the summer of 2020 as originally planned. Instead, Riot Games will be releasing it earlier!

In an announcement on Thursday, Riot Games shared a video of Executive Producer Anna Donlon and Game Director Joe Ziegler revealing the new launch date of the highly anticipated tactical shooter. According to the execs, due to the challenges brought by the coronavirus pandemic, the studio decided to release the game on June 2.

“We’ve been wanting to get you this game to help brighten these tough times, but as it turns out, we’re not going to be launching the game in a few months,” Ziegler said in the video with a saddened look.

“Because we’re launching it in a few weeks,” Donlon chimed into hyped fans about the earlier release date for the game.

Meanwhile, in a post on their website, Riot Games revealed that there is more to come at the game’s launch and beyond, hinting about “new agents, new maps, new skins, and new ways to compete.”

“Outside of general game balance, one of the largest requests we’ve heard is that VALORANT is an intense game to play, and there’s not much reprieve from it. Having an alternative game mode by launch (or a few weeks thereafter) is on our to-do list, and we have a team thinking about what an ongoing rotation of game modes might look like,” Riot Games added.

“Valorant” has enjoyed a highly successful closed beta, one that has been highlighted by a slew of professional players jumping ship and opting to play the game in preparation for what is expected to be a big hit.

While the closed beta has also been hounded by cheaters, toxic players, and criticisms about its “invasive” anti-cheat technology, these were dwarfed by the hype that surrounded “Valorant.”

“Valorant” is a free-to-play multiplayer first-person shooter that features an interesting ranking mode. Based on early reviews from its closed beta, fans were drawn into the game due to its emphasis on team strategy and the need for actual skills to thrive – something that is lacking in other FPS titles.

It will be available to play on PC when it is launched on June 2.
