Drama will still plague Mystic Falls in Season 6 of "The Vampire Diaries" -- despite supernatural creatures being banned from the town. CW

Brace yourselves, “Vampire Diaries” fans. After months of anticipation and little snippets of scoop, the official synopsis for Season 6 of The CW’s hit series has been released.

Season 5 of “The Vampire Diaries” concluded with one of the biggest cliffhangers in the history of the show -- the deaths of Damon and Bonnie. Viewers will remember the gang was put into a difficult situation when Mystic Falls became overrun with Travelers, a group bent on calling Mystic Falls home and stripping it of all its magic. The Travelers succeeded in ridding the town of magic, forcing Elena, Damon, Stefan, Caroline and Tyler to leave everything behind. However, Elena, Damon and Bonnie came up with a dangerous and deadly plan to destroy the Travelers and their evil leader, Markos.

Unfortunately, the plan didn’t work out exactly the way they wanted. Elena and Damon died in an explosion that successfully killed Markos and a large number of his people. However, the spell that banned the magic from town didn’t break. To make matters worse, only Elena managed to pass through Bonnie in time before her connection to The Other Side was severed. The Season 5 finale of “The Vampire Diaries” ended with Stefan, Enzo, Alaric, Tyler (now a human with the werewolf gene) and Elena back from the dead -- but Bonnie and Damon being left on The Other Side as the supernatural world crumbled. The final scene featured Bonnie and Damon vanishing in a white light.

So, what’s next for “The Vampire Diaries” in Season 6? According to the synopsis, the premiere of the new season will feature a time jump of a couple of months following the “devastating tragedy.”

“Everyone is dealing with the loss of their loved ones in different ways, some more destructively than others,” teases the synopsis. And while it doesn’t go into more detail, fans will remember the Season 6 promo video shows Jeremy drinking alone in the woods and Elena resorting to witchy drugs in her attempt to hallucinate Damon.

While the group falls apart, Mystic Falls will become home to a “mysterious new community watch program” whose goal is to protect the town -- more than likely from the return of supernatural beings. It will be up to the crew to “find a way to push through their grief and band together” if they ever want to return to their homes and “salvage their former lives.”

The synopsis concludes: “This season will explore themes of loss, denial and what it means to move on in the face of immortality, ultimately begging the age-old question -- can you ever really go home again?”

As for what happened to Bonnie and Damon? Their whereabouts and “if they can ever be saved” remains a mystery for now.

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 will premiere on The CW Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. EDT. What are you excited to see unfold? Tweet your thoughts to @AmandaTVScoop.
