Despite saying that he will be leaving the United States if Donald Trump wins the presidential election, Ian Somerhalder does not show signs of moving to another country anytime soon. In fact, Nina Dobrev’s ex is now more determined to make an impact on the country’s conservation campaign.

On Thursday, the “Vampire Diaries” actor took to Instagram to share a snap of himself and his pet horse, which he considers his “kid.” Somerhalder revealed in the caption that he was enjoying the “brisk air of the deep American South” when he took the picture.

Aside from the beautiful environment, however, the television actor also revealed that he just spoke with his Republican brothers and sisters in Washington and came up with a “strong plan to find the sound economics of conservation.”

Somerhalder also reminded everyone the importance of protecting the “lands” and “waters” of the country to ensure its health and wealth remains intact. Although he has yet to divulge the details of the “strong plan” he mentioned in his Instagram post, he is positive that “we’re going to come together as strong, smart and compassionate nation.”

The 37-year-old “Lost” alum is a philanthropist and conservationist. Ever since he married Nikki Reed, his desire to be an agent of change has expanded to a larger footprint. Somerhalder has even encouraged and motivated his social media followers to join him and his wife in their advocacies. Just this Wednesday, he proudly shared a teaser photo of his wife’s report on global warming on Nat Geo Channel.

Reed also does the same on her Instagram account. The 28-year-old “Twilight” actress has also been documenting and sharing her engagements with certain movements that aim to conserve and protect the people in general. Amid the Dakota Access Pipeline controversy, Reed posted updates to ask for support from other people in standing up against “agitators.”

Meanwhile, though Somerhalder and his wife are preoccupied with their conservation goals, the former is still working on The CW’s “Vampire Diaries” Season 8. This season will mark the last time Somerhalder will be portraying the broody, handsome vampire Damon Salvatore. He revealed this April that he is already done with the show, as per CelebBuzz. His revelation comes in the wake of never-ending rumors that his leading lady and ex-girlfriend Dobrev is returning for the show’s finale.
