With no other Marvel movies to occupy the public’s mind, fans of the MCU are focusing on "Venom 2" after revealing which villain is joining the new arc. Fan-favorite villain Carnage is joining the sequel. Woody Harrelson is tapped to play Venom's archrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tom Hardy is returning as Eddie Brock, who traces down the Carnage symbiote that found a dangerous host in Harrelson’s character, the already-notorious serial killer Cletus Kasady. Screen Rant reported that this was enough to make a fan create a video, which was based on the 1992 "Spider-Man" comic storyline, “Maximum Carnage.”

In the comic books, Carnage was constantly a thorn in the side of Spider-Man and, later on, Venom's. The former villain turned anti-hero and eventually defeated and caught Kasady, stopping his reign of terror. In the fan-made trailer, Spider-Man, played by actor Tom Holland, rightfully makes a cameo, where his head is being bitten by Venom. The trailer is a spliced-together masterpiece featuring bits and pieces from Marvel films as well as other footages.

If the fan-made trailer turns out prophetic, then Spidey and Venom will eventually team up in the movie. The rights to "Spider-Man" films is still with Disney and Marvel. This hasn’t dampened Sony’s vision of getting the Web-crawler and Venom together in a movie. "Venom" director Ruben Fleischer said that the crossover will be happening eventually.

“Venom 2” might be patterned after the “Maximum Carnage” storyline is a likely possibility. The comic-book storyline as being one of the reasons why Venom sprang from the comic books and into the big screen, The Hollywood Reporter cited.

Back then, people had started wishing for “Venom 2” to become the “Avengers” of the Spider-Man MC universe. Now, it appears there just might be a chance for that to happen. In the comic books, the “Maximum Carnage” event featured a lot of crossovers of characters. With “Morbius” and “Black Cat” happening, the chance for this to happen is very big indeed.
