Wall Street rises as data hint recession easing
Stocks rose modestly on Friday after government data hinting the recession may be abating was offset by resurgent oil prices that could be a drain on the consumer.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 27.16 points, or 0.32 percent, to 8,430.96. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> added 3.18 points, or 0.35 percent, to 910.01. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> edged up 2.62 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,754.41.
