In Season 1 of “Westworld,” all fans got to see was the Western theme park and the operating offices of Delos. But Season 2 will take viewers out of the park and into the real world.

Show creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy even said that they are entertaining the idea of creating another world filled with hosts, and it might materialize in the seasons to come.

“We’re very engaged with the story we’re telling and the characters and the world we’ve come to know. But the concept of glimpsing some of those other worlds is exciting too. If we were going to shoot anything like ‘SW,’ I think it would be cooler if it were called Shogun World!” Nolan told TV Insider.

His wife Joy agreed and assured fans that the sci-fi theme park is not just limited to cowboys and saloons. “We’re going to see an expansion of Westworld in a lot of ways. Not only are we potentially interested in exploring a world that has the initials ‘SW,’ but we’re also going to be exploring the characters within the world that we know and some other characters we come across that are both host and human,” she said.

For next season, Nolan and Joy did their best to make sure Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) returns. During the Season 1 finale, Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) pointed a gun to his head and fired, so it’s safe to say that he’s dead. But some fans refused to acknowledge this and held out hope that the park creator might still be alive. Nolan told Digital Spy that Ford is really dead, but there’s another way to bring his character back — and no, Ford will not become another host.

“I think the sacrifice he makes at the end of the first season is very real,” he said. “I think there will be an opportunity to explore a little bit more of the backstory of how this park came to be, a little more of that story. We’ll see the character’s presence will be felt in that sense in terms of filling in a few more of the gaps about the early history of this place.”

“Westworld” Season 2 premieres on HBO in 2018.
