Coming off the critical success of “The Irishman,” actor Stephen Graham is reportedly in talks for Sony’s upcoming sequel “Venom 2.”

Graham’s role hasn’t been revealed, according to Deadline. The sequel to the worldwide hit “Venom” would have Graham joining the cast that includes Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson, Reid Scott, and Naomie Harris. It just so happens that Graham has worked with Hardy previously in the FX series “Taboo,” but this would be the first time seeing these two in a film together. Graham’s rumored role in the sequel is being kept under wraps as Sony hasn’t commented on the casting.

“Venom” delivered over $855 million at the worldwide box office in 2018, resulting in Sony greenlighting a sequel. Avi Arad, Hutch Parker, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal are returning to produce the movie. Kelly Marcel wrote the script for the sequel after working on the first film. Andy Serkis will direct. Filming started last month with a scheduled 2020 release in mind.

Besides seeing Graham go against Al Pacino as Anthony "Tony Pro" Provenzano in Netflix's crime film “The Irishman,” the British actor has been known for his work on the film “This Is England,” along with its sequels. Worldwide, audiences may know him as Scrum from “The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and as Al Capone from the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.”

The actor will be seen on the small screen again in Hardy's “A Christmas Carol” miniseries and in the 2020 war film “Greyhound” alongside Tom Hanks.

“Venom 2” is scheduled for release on Oct. 2, 2020.
