A high school volleyball coach in New York City was convicted on a number of child sex charges after he convinced a 15-year-old female student to masturbate for him via FaceTime and send him nude photos, according to reports. Luis Rodriguez, a junior varsity coach at Richmond Hill High School in the borough of Queens was found guilty of all charges by a Queens Supreme Court jury Tuesday.

Rodriguez, 45, was charged with attempted use of a child in a sexual performance, disseminating indecent material to minors and endangering the welfare of a trial for manipulating the girl into touching herself in a sexual manner while he watched during a FaceTime call in October and November 2014, according to court documents obtained by the New York Daily News. Along with receiving nude photos from the teen, Rodriguez also reportedly sent a video of himself masturbating and alleged that he wanted to have sex with the student.

“The defendant was a coach and teacher — someone whom parents trusted their children would be safe with,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement. “This man, however, violated that trust. This coach used an extracurricular school activity to prey on this young victim.”

Rodriguez was being held without bail while awaiting his sentencing hearing on Jan. 12. He was facing up to seven years in prison for the charges.

A Texas teacher was arrested recently for having a sexual affair with a student that started through a social media app. Alaina Ferguson, a 23-year-old math teacher, was accused of connecting with the 16-year-old boy on Snapchat and orchestrated a meeting at a park in the town of Lewisville, where the two reportedly had sex on a park bench at the beginning of the school year. The two continued to have sexual encounters following their first incident. Ferguson also allegedly sent the teen nude photos and was accused of supplying the student and a friend with beer at her apartment while her fiancé was away.
