Netflix’s “Free Rein” is an equestrian series about an American teenager named Zoe (Jaylen Barron) who moves to a small island off the coast of England where she befriends a group of riders at a local horse stable.

While, on the surface, that might not seem like something for fans of royals Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, it does eventually have qualities that they’d enjoy. First off, it’s about a biracial American woman, like Markle, who ends up moving to an English location.

On top of that, Zoe ends up falling in love with a British guy named Pin (Freddy Carter), who, it turns out, is a Duke. Starting to sound familiar?

“He’s gonna ask you to marry him, and then you’ll say yes,” Zoe’s friend Becky (Kerry Ingram) says to her in the new “Free Rein” Valentine’s Day special. “And you’ll be a Duchess. And live in a fancy castle and have fancy parties.”

As Markle married Prince Harry in 2018 and the two became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Becky’s comment only helps to show the parallels between the show and Markle’s real life. Although, since they’re only teenagers on the show, a marriage probably wouldn’t happen unless the show went on for quite a few more seasons and the characters had time to grow up and grow together.

“Free Rein” currently has two seasons and two holiday specials available to watch on Netflix, and Season 3 is expected to be released later in 2019.
