George RR Martin has been close to finishing “Winds of Winter” for a few years now, but each time the release date gets delayed after the writer is unable to reach his self-imposed deadline. Now, the celebrity author is involved with many more projects that will keep him away from completing the novel.

One of the projects that Martin will be busy with in the coming months is the upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel series. The show will be about the history of the Targaryens, and it will be based on the book “Fire & Blood.”

Martin is developing the new show with the writer and producer of the “Colony” TV series Ryan Condal. The “Winds of Winter” author will co-write the pilot episode of the new show, Screen Rant reported. The plot will be about the Targaryen Civil War.

It may be only a short time that Martin will be involved in developing the prequel. He was also involved with “Game of Thrones” in the initial stages, and then he slowly withdrew to let the producers handle everything while he focused on other projects.

Apart from the prequel there are a few more Westeros based shows that HBO is working on, which means further delay for “Winds of Winter.” Martin has also been busy with writing other books, on top of the ones that are based in Westeros.

The other big challenges for Martin is that he keeps making changes to the story as he writes. His initial plan for “A Song of Ice and Fire” was to make it a trilogy, Screen Rant reported. He kept expanding the fictitious world in his books, and the plan right now is to end with the seventh book with the title “A Dream of Spring.”

Knowing that the fans are getting impatient about the release of “Winds of Winter,” Martin has been releasing sample chapters from the upcoming book from time to time. So far, he has released chapters related to Theon, Alayne, Victarion, Tyrion, Barristan, Arya, and a few others, Screen Rant reported.
