A woman in the U.K. has reportedly admitted to murdering a fellow resident at a refuge center, and dismembering her body before dumping it in suitcases last year.

Gareeca Gordon of Birmingham pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing Phoenix Netts on a day between April 14 and May 12, 2020, reported media outlet English Headline. Gordon admitted she had murdered her fellow resident at the shared accommodation property in a row over drugs.

She then carried out a series of “detailed and organized actions” to convince Netts’ family she was still alive.

Investigators found out 28-year-old Gordon had reportedly contacted Netts’ friends and family through emails, messages and even voice calls pretending to be the victim, the media outlet reported. She convinced them she was leaving the address and moving to London.

Gordon, who carefully planned the disposal of the victim’s remains, had bought a circular saw and dismembered the body. However, the police discovered the remains in a badly decomposed state beside a quarry after a member of the public reported suspicions about a vehicle driving erratically in that area.

The police took Gordon and another man into custody May 12, 2020, and found them with two suitcases containing human remains. The investigation later identified the remains were that of the 28-year-old victim.

“As a family we are devastated with what has happened to Phoenix,” Netts’ family said in a statement released through police, Birmingham Live reported.

Netts reportedly moved to a women’s refuge by the end of 2019. One of her friends from university described her as “a lovely person” who “would give you her last penny.”

“Gareeca Gordon committed a truly gruesome crime and tried to cover her tracks. She has now accepted the totality and consequences of her actions,” Lesley Milner, a senior crown prosecutor said. “Our thoughts today are with the family and friends of Phoenix Netts for their tragic loss,” Milner added.

Gordon is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing May 4.
