It took an Indonesian woman more than 10 months to realize that her "husband" is actually a woman pretending to be a man.

The accused, who went around posing as a man named Ahnaf Arrafif, is now facing charges of fraud.

The 22-year-old wife, identified only as NA, said she met her spouse online through a dating app last year and they struck a connection. They met in person for the first time in May last year when Arrafif visited NA's hometown of Jambi, according to the New York Post.

Arrafif told the woman he was a doctor trained in the United States and that he also ran a coal business.

It didn't take long for Arrafif to propose to NA and the pair tied the knot last July. However, the pair neither had a state-sanctioned wedding nor was the marriage legally registered because Arrafif could not produce the required legal documents. Their marriage was only recognized by religion.

NA said she thought they had penetrative intercourse while they were married but admitted she was asked "not to look directly at Arrafif's genitals." She also revealed her eyes would be always "covered with a cloth" when they had sex.

Arrafif would only be naked in front of her when the lights were switched off and they had sex only when it's pitch black, the woman told investigators.

The con artist later told cops that he managed to make NA believe they were having penetrative sex by using her fingers.

The couple moved in with NA's parents after their marriage and Arrafif had constantly asked them for money. NA's mother was initially impressed but eventually began suspecting whether Arrafif actually had a job. The mother also had doubts about whether her "son-in-law" was actually a man.

When the mother asked Arrafif to show his identification card, he moved out of the home with his wife. The person was reportedly in full control of NA's finances and also forbade her from interacting with anyone.

Based on a complaint from NA's mother, police managed to trace the couple's whereabouts in April. When Arrafif was ordered to strip naked, the "husband" admitted that she was a woman and that her real name was Erayani Arrafif.

NA, who is still reeling from the shocking turn of events, said, "I'm still scared, I'm shaking when I go out," Tribune News reported.
