An unidentified woman shot and killed her estranged husband during an argument as he tried to pull a gun on her. The incident took place in Washington County, Oregon, on Monday.

The woman, after shooting her husband twice in the stomach, called 911 and reported the incident at around 1 p.m. local time (4 p.m. EDT). Officers rushed to the spot in an attempt to save the dying man but weren’t successful as the man succumbed to his injuries, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff’s deputy, Brian van Kleef, said the couple was going through a divorce and that the man was at the residence to collect his possessions. Van Kleef also implied that both guns present at the crime scene were handguns or pistols. No bullets were fired by the husband, the police report concluded.

The deputy sheriff reported that the officers reached the location at Northwest Germantown road within five minutes of the 911 call but were unable to help the husband. He added the woman was “emotionally appropriate” and co-operated with the investigation.

The sheriff’s office released a statement regarding the shooting saying “there is no danger to the public” and that the incident had occurred due to an argument.

In a similar incident in Opelousas, Louisiana, a woman was arrested for reportedly shooting at her husband during an argument earlier this month. The 70-year-old woman, identified as Hazel Edwards, was booked under an attempted second-degree murder charge, Opelousas Police Chief Martin Mclendon said at the time. He also added that alcohol could have been the cause of the argument as it was recovered from the crime scene. The husband reportedly escaped unharmed.
