A 40-year-old woman, who was arrested Sunday for allegedly killing her boyfriend, shocked police officials by confessing to murdering her husband five years ago.

Ironically, both the victims are siblings and her boyfriend had even helped her commit the first murder. The incident happened in the Indian city of Bhopal, reports Hindustan Times.

According to senior police officials, the woman sought the aid of her teenage son and daughter to kill her boyfriend, who was also her brother-in-law. She was also helped by her tenant Rajesh Bisoriya, who is allegedly her current lover. He has also been arrested.

"The five-year-old mystery of her husband's missing case was resolved after the woman, along with her kids and tenant, beat the boyfriend to death. The body was thrown near a residential locality on Friday," the senior official told Hindustan Times.

After beating the man to death, the woman planned to dispose of the body in a nearby river. However, when the body slipped off her bike and fell on the road, she left it there and fled. The body was later found by local people who spotted dogs nibbling on it.

Following this, an investigation was launched. Police officials placed her under suspicion and summoned her for questioning. During interrogation, the woman confessed to murdering her boyfriend, who was also her brother-in-law, after he opposed her relationship with the tenant.

It was then that she opened up about her first murder that happened five years ago, unraveling the mystery of her "missing husband."

"She wanted to leave her specially-abled husband to marry his brother, but her husband was not ready to divorce her and used to beat her. Five years ago, the woman and her brother-in-law strangulated the husband to death. The kids, then 10- and 11-year-old, saw their father’s murder but the woman and the brother-in-law threatened them with dire consequences if they told anyone about the murder," said the police officer.

She added that they buried the husband’s body in the house and the incident was never reported to anyone. Following the confession, police on Saturday exhumed the remains of the husband.

The woman has been charged with murder and causing the disappearance of evidence of an offense and giving false information to screen an offender. Meanwhile, the tenant is facing murder charges.
