David Duchovny said that he would be up for a potential Season 12 of “The X-Files.”

“I’m open. I love working with these people and I love the show. I’m always open,” the actor told TV Insider and other news outlets at last month’s New York Comic Con when asked if he would reprise his role as Fox Mulder if Fox ordered another season of the sci-fi drama.

“It’s a struggle to get everyone together at the same time, regardless of what [series creator] Chris [Carter] says,” Duchovny admitted. “[But] if they want to do it, I’m open to do it.”

But would Duchovny still be open to returning if his co-star Gillian Anderson ended up leaving the series after the upcoming Season 11?

During a roundtable interview at New York Comic Con, Anderson was asked if she would still be open to reprising her role as Dana Scully beyond Season 11, and the actress answered (via Screen Rant): “No, no, I think this will be it for me.”

When asked why she decided to return for Season 11, the actress explained: “Because it felt like it wasn’t over. It didn’t feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that.”

Plot details about Season 11 have been scarce, but the trailer for the new season revealed that the search for Mulder and Scully’s son William is a huge part of this year’s installment. “You have to find him and you have to stop him before he releases hell on Earth,” Scully, who is seemingly referring to their long lost son, tells Mulder in the promo clip.

Fox has yet to announce the actor who was cast to play William, but it seems that Duchovny and Anderson have already worked with him on set. Anderson told TVLine that the actor who was cast to play William “looks like a normal kid,” but Duchovny revealed that William doesn’t resemble any of his parents. “He resembles two people that aren’t Mulder and Scully. And when you read this back [after watching the episodes] you’ll figure this out,” the actor said.

“The X-Files” Season 11 premieres on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
