The drama in Genoa City never seems to end for those who are locked in major battles with one another, but everyone will put their differences aside as news of a major death shocks everyone on the Wednesday, April 24 episode of “The Young and the Restless.”

Devon (Bryton James) and Lily (Christel Khalil) were the first to realize their father, Neil (Kristoff St. John) had passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at Devon’s penthouse before the Society restaurant opening, and those attending the event with them, like their direct family members and Abby (Melissa Ordway), who was Devon’s business partner, are also aware of what has happened. Now, they will be the ones to share the news as it begins to spread throughout the town on the CBS soap—and deeply stuns everyone who hears it.

Abby will likely be the one to bear the news to the two prominent families she comes from and will tell her mother, Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and uncle, Jack (Peter Bergman), who have been at one another’s throats recently due to their business competition. Considering their individual close relationships with Neil, the siblings will quickly put their conflict aside as they grieve and remember their close friend. Jack will reflect on the ways Neil helped him save himself from destruction whenever life got the better of him, while Ashley will grieve that she lost touch with him after ending their romance when she went off to Paris. Together, they will agree that anything that is causing them trouble now isn’t worth the anguish, because they have something more important and devastating to contend with.

The news will also be heartbreaking as it reached Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor (Eric Braden), who were also good friends with Neil, and with whom Nikki will credit for helping save her life every time she succumbed to her addictions. They too will decide to put aside any conflicts that have occurred between them and the Abbotts, as well as each other.

Of course, no family will be more affected that Neil’s own, especially since this is the second major tragedy that they are dealing with in less than a year. Devon may begin to spiral once again, as he deals with not only this but the memories of losing Hilary and his baby not that long ago. Meanwhile, Lily, will be devastated because she’ll blame her actions—the ones which landed her in jail and cost Hilary her life—as also putting unnecessary stress on Neil—and she will likely find comfort in Cane’s (Daniel Goddard) arms, even though she was ready to divorce him before the news about her father broke.

Regardless of how they handle the news, no one in Genoa City will ever be the same again.

“The Young and the Restless” airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. EDT on CBS.
