Johnny Depp’s lawyer said the 911 call made by Amber Heard’s friend was a hoax to boost the actress’ profile.

Heard and Depp separated in 2016, but the exes are still embroiled in a legal battle years after their divorce was finalized. The “Aquaman” star accused the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor of being violent and abusive. However, things blew up when an audio recording leaked in February in which Heard admitted that she started their fight and she hit her ex-husband.

On Monday, Daily Mail shared another audio recording. This time, it was the 911 call made the night Depp and Heard had a blowout fight that ended their marriage. However, the call raised several questions.

The call was timestamped 8:27 p.m. on May 21, 2016 (a Saturday), around the time Heard claimed that Depp attacked her. He allegedly hurled a cell phone at her face and tore out her hair.

The caller refused to identify herself but said that it was an emergency and provided the address to Heard and Depp’s home. Heard said the call was made by her friend iO Tillett Wright because they were talking over the phone before Depp attacked her and he heard their argument over the phone. Heard ordered him to call 911 before their call ended.

However, according to Depp’s legal team, Tillett Wright’s call was not registered until 10:09 p.m., an hour and a half after the alleged attack. Hence, the team claimed that the original 911 call was made by Raquel Pennington, a yoga instructor and Heard’s close pal who “lived rent free” in a neighboring apartment owned by Depp.

Pennington was one of the first persons on the scene after the alleged assault. In July 2016, she was asked if she dialed 911. However, she said that Tillett Wright already called the police.

Depp was seen on the surveillance video leaving the apartment at 8:29 p.m. He wasn’t aware of Heard’s injuries until she filed for a restraining order six day later with a bruised face.

Two LAPD officers, Melissa Saenz and Tyler Hadden, responded to the 8:27 p.m. call but found no evidence of a crime. Saenz learned that a second patrol visited the penthouse later on the same night and “their findings were the same as ours.”

Depp’s lawyer Adam Waldman questioned the call due to the discrepancies. He said that nothing was credible with what Heard and her friends did that night.

“Quite simply this was an ambush, a hoax. They set Mr Depp up by calling the cops but the first attempt didn't do the trick,” Waldman told Daily Mail.

“The officers came to the penthouses, thoroughly searched and interviewed, and left after seeing no damage to face or property. So Amber and her friends spilled a little wine and roughed the place up, got their stories straight under the direction of a lawyer and publicist, and then placed a second call to 911,” he added.

Meanwhle, Tillett Wright's attorney Lauren Schwartz also told the publication that he “stands by his truth account” that he made the call and the hour and a half delay was due to the time it took the NYPD to formally hand the incident over to the LAPD.

“Mr. Depp's effort to paint Mr Wright as a hoaxer or a liar is simply an effort to re-write history. The truth of Mr Wright's statements will be proven by documents and testimony when this case finally goes to trial,” Schwartz told the outlet.

Depp already said that Heard painted on bruises to obtain a temporary restraining order from him. If Heard were found guilty of faking evidence against Depp, she could face 3 years of imprisonment.
