Are Americans having a hard time sleeping nowadays? This could be the conclusion that one can derive based on the study, which showed that Americans slept for fewer hours in 2019 as compared to 2018.

Costly Sleep

According to an NYPost report, Americans today are willing to spend $316.61 if it would mean getting one night of perfect sleep. This was the value given by the recent study. It also revealed that in 2018, the value that Americans were willing to part with for a good night’s rest was $290.

The willingness of the respondents to pay that much just to get a good sleep at night shows the extreme desire to enjoy a restful sleep. It also shows the disparity between two consecutive years showing more people were able to sleep better in 2018 than in 2019.

Not Even 8 Hours

Around 20,000 American adults participated in the survey. The result suggested that even though they would like to get a restful sleep, they still have a hard time doing so. They hardly get to achieve eight hours of sleep, the recommended number of hours for the body to fully recuperate.

Accordingly, the survey showed that the respondents of the survey averaged 5.5 hours of sleep per night in 2019. However, in 2018, they were able to enjoy 6 hours and 17 minutes. Judging by the ratio, there are about one out of four Americans who have a hard time sleeping.

Naptime Fails

In addition to the above data, the results also showed an increase in the number of naps that Americans took. In 2019, there were 115 naps during the midday. However, in 2018, there were only 93 naps that were recorded.

Perhaps the most bothersome data was the number of times that the respondents tried so hard to enjoy a nap and yet weren’t able to do so. They said that they couldn’t fall asleep. That inability to sleep even though your body desires for it so much could be an issue that must be addressed.
