There was a source close to the Jolie-Pitt family that revealed to US Weekly how Maddox was, and still is, very close to his mom. Although Jolie’s ex, Brad, officially adopted him back in 2006, there had been reports alleging they both had a strained relationship which stemmed from a supposed argument on a private with the “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” actor in 2016.

Fast forward to a couple of years later, Jolie will have to deal with the fact that her son will be away for a while. Pop Sugar reported that she accompanied her son to South Korea where he will be studying Biochemistry. On August 21, Jolie dropped him off at Yonsei University.

The emotional Jolie, in a video posted by Entertainment Tonight, revealed to a group of people that she’s holding back her tears. Maddox was also reportedly protective of his mom. Jolie’s son has reportedly spoken of his adoration for his mom and his respect for her craft.

In his 18 years of existence on Earth, Maddox has three legal names. His birth name was Rath Vibol. When Jolie adopted him, she named him Maddox Chivan Thornton Jolie because at the time of the adoption, the “Tomb Raider” actress was still married to her then-husband Billy Bob Thorton.

When Jolie and Pitt got together, the “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood” actor legally adopted Maddox Chivan, so his name, again, changed from Thornton Jolie to Jolie Pitt.
