Bill S. Preston (Alex Winter) and Ted Theodore Logan III (Keanu Reeves) are rejoining for yet another wild and zany adventure of music creation. In an exclusive first look with Entertainment Weekly, “Bill & Ted Face the Music” sees the duo once more attempting to write songs and produce music in order to stave off the end of the world.

“Bill & Ted” writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon discuss the nature and foundation of the wonky story about a pair of music lovers who can potentially change the course of history through their band, Wyld Stallyns. Since 1989’s “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” the character duo have stopped at nothing to ensure reality’s safety, though the third “Bill & Ted” adventure will invite many new faces.

“They were told when they were teenagers that they were going to save reality, and they’ve been working on it the whole time,” Matheson explained. “Now an emissary from the future comes and says, ‘You’ve got to do it right now. We’ve got literally 80 minutes or all of reality will come to an end.’”

The first official stills from “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” exclusively released by EW, can be viewed below. A trailer is expected to arrive in early 2020.

William Sadler, who first appeared in “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey,” will be reprising his role as the Grim Reaper. The “Bill & Ted Face the Music” cast now includes the titular characters’ daughters, Thea (Samara Weaving) and Billie (Brigette Lundy-Paine), as well as “Saturday Night Live” star Beck Bennett and even Kid Cudi.

“He plays Kid Cudi,” director Dean Parisot said. “He gets mysteriously thrown around through various times, because all time and space is coming unglued.”

Reeves certainly has a busy schedule in 2020. With two fourth installments, “The Matrix 4” and “John Wick 4,” as well as a “SpongeBob” movie and lending his voice for an in-game character in “Cyberpunk 2077,” the 55-year-old actor continues to showcase his talents on many fronts.

“There’d be a lot about him that would be the same, I’m sure; his kind of optimistic naïveté in the face of the darkness will still be there,” said Reeves in a 2018 interview with Vanity Fair. “He has a child now, so I’m sure he’s matured.”

Winter, on the other hand, has been directing documentaries in his spare time between “Bill & Ted” movies. His excitement in returning to the comedy sci-fi universe is seemingly apparent in responding to whether his acting abilities had diminished.

“If I was going back into doing fricking ‘King Lear,’ then I would have been wetting my nappies,” he said. “But I do know this guy pretty well.”

"Bill & Ted Face the Music" releases Aug. 21.
