BizzCon 2019 paved the way for the arrival of Lilith and a new “Diablo” game to the delight of gamers all over the world. But while it's more than apparent that the game is upon us, Blizzard has no plans of releasing the game anytime soon.

There's no need to fret, though. “Diablo IV” game director Luis Barriga said in a blog post that they will be releasing an update on the game in February 2020. This, too, will be the start of its “quarterly updates” where Barriga and his team will share important developments and behind-the-scenes sneak peek that will eventually lead to the game's full and official release.

By this, Barriga – and Blizzard as a whole – took everything that they have gathered from the time the game was first speculated, down to its first trailer reveal and class gameplay. The quarterly updates are part of their thrust to open “Diablo IV” to the gaming community, and to slowly answer the questions of those who want to find out more about the game.

Blizzard lead systems designer David Kim will likewise give his own update “in the coming weeks,” said Gamespot. Among those that Kim will share will be valuable insights on the game's items and stats and of course, to answer some of our “open questions.”

“Getting this right is at the top of our minds,” said Barriga on his blog post.

With all things considered, “Diablo IV” will be a huge breakaway from its previous installments. Players can ride mounts to easily traverse the expanse of the map, while the PvP mode that was scheduled to be included in “Diablo III” will now be offered to the new game. The dark and gory environment of “Diablo II” was also incorporated and as such, old-school “Diablo” players will feel right at home.

Elsewhere, GamesRadar+ reiterated that “Diablo IV” will have microtranscations as confirmed by lead game designer Joe Shely. He said that players “will be able to acquire cosmetics in the game,” plus the fact that “Diablo IV” will have expansions.

Executive producer Allen Adham also confirmed that it is Blizzard's goal to make “Diablo IV” as a cross-platform where players from different consoles can play together. Another perennial detail is that the game will require players to be always online “to play together in a shared world.”
