Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce has made an approach to take a minority stake in Allied Irish Banks, Irish state broadcaster RTE reported on Friday, without citing any sources.

A spokesman for CIBC said the bank did not comment on rumors or market speculation.

Allied Irish earlier said it had received an approach from a third party, which two sources familiar with the matter said came from Canada.
