Pinellas County, Florida -- Two people in Florida were detained Tuesday for reportedly engaging in sexual activity with her dog while her ex-boyfriend, who was also detained, filmed the encounter on tape, authorities said.

Authorities believe that Christina Calello, 36, from Safety Harbor, and Geoffrey Springer, 39, from Largo, engaged in sexual activity with their dog regularly, leading to their arrest and criminal charges, according to Tampa Bay Times.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department, Calello "willingly engaged in sexual activities with the dog on several occasions" for about eight years, the New York Post reported.

Springer, Calello's ex-boyfriend allegedly recorded the intercourse and stored them on a hard drive.

The nature of the sexual acts involved was not discussed by the police. The dog was transported to a veterinary hospital by deputies for a standard checkup. The dog did not have any injuries or wounds that were obvious.

Engaging in bestiality or a sexual act with an animal is a criminal offense in Florida, however, it remains legal in several states of America.

If found guilty, the law imposes a maximum fine of $2,000, and a sentence of up to 5 years in jail with or without hard labor, or both, are the possible penalties for offenders of bestiality or sexual abuse of an animal.

The two were transferred to the Pinellas County Jail and were each issued a $5,000 bond. According to jail records, Springer was freed on his own recognizance while Calello was later released on a surety bond, WTSP reported. The investigation is ongoing.

In another incident, a man from Malawi was detained on suspicion of raping a goat in a field in April 2019. He stated that he had asked the goat for permission to have sex with it. The owner of the goat initially assumed that Kennedy Kambani, 21, was attempting to steal the goat, but when he went back to the field to apprehend him with some neighbors, he discovered that Kambani was having sex with the goat.
