Health experts have been anxious about the possibility of a “twindemic” since the beginning of the pandemic, and now, “flurona” has arrived, with an unvaccinated pregnant woman in Israel testing positive for both the flu and coronavirus. More cases have also been reported around the world, and now, the first death has also occurred.

The Health Ministry in Peru announced the first death from “Flurona,” in an 87-year-old patient who was not vaccinated against COVID-19. According to Public Health Surveillance Director César Munayco, “three cases were detected in Amazonia, in Bagua. Of the three infected people, two have had outpatient management and have not represented any problem.”

“Flurona” is a term being used to describe people who become infected with both COVID-19 and the flu at the same time. This is not considered a new disease comprised of the two viruses, but rather a double infection with the two separate illnesses coexisting.

Dr. Munayco clarified the symptoms of the infection, stating they include a cough, sore throat and overall weakness.
