Developer Crystal Dynamics will hold three beta weekends to promote “Marvel’s Avengers” for the PlayStation 4 this August.

The Avengers, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, take center stage once more in this third-person video game with the first beta weekend happening on August 7-9 for those that pre-ordered “Marvel’s Avengers” for the PS4. No start times have been posted as of yet and registration is required.

“Marvel’s Avengers” is an action-adventure game that combines an original, cinematic story with single-player and co-operative gameplay. Assemble into a team of up to four players online, master extraordinary abilities, customize a growing roster of Heroes, and defend the Earth from escalating threats.

Eurogamer reports that the next beta weekend will run from August 14-16 and open to all PS4 players, but only for those on PC and Xbox One who've pre-ordered a copy of “Marvel’s Avengers.” A third and final beta weekend happens on August 21-23, and that will be open to everyone on all platforms.

When one of the Avengers gets killed on “A-Day” due to the efforts of Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.) and the Taskmaster, the team disbands, only to find themselves forced to reunite five years later. Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk, and Ms. Marvel must put aside their differences to combat a bigger foe and discover the true culprit behind what happened during A-Day in San Francisco.

A few weeks ago, it was revealed that the main protagonist for this game will be none other than MODOK, the former A.I.M. employee whose intelligence has been enhanced through various experiments. Supporting characters will include Nick Fury, Hank Pym, Maria Hill, and Dum Dum Dugan. One of the Hulk’s classic foes, the Abomination, will be one of the villains joining MODOK and the Taskmaster.

Details on what anyone will be able to do during the beta sessions are sketchy at best thanks to Crystal Dynamics’ secrecy, however, expect some information to arrive on July 29, Eurogamer notes. That’s when another “Marvel’s Avengers” War Table livestream is set for 1:00 p.m. EST / 10:00 a.m. PST.

“Marvel's Avengers” gets its full PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC release this September 4.
