Cynet Systems caused controversy this weekend after the Virginia tech-recruting firm shared a job listing seeking account manager applicants in Tampa, Florida, who were "preferably Caucasian." The company shared the post on sites including Linkedin and Glasdoor.

The firm ended up receiving backlash on Twitter after releasing the post, which sought a "Caucasian who has good technical background.” They eventually apologized and removed the listing, according to The Guardian.

One Twitter user wrote, "I can't believe something like this still exists in this day and age."

The company said in a statement Monday, "It is a long-standing policy for our company to refuse any request to list jobs only seeking candidates of any specific ethnicity, gender, or other inappropriate restrictions, and we will turn clients down if they demand requirements of this type be included."

Additionally, the company's co-CEO, Ashwani Mayur, said, “We understand why some may have been upset seeing this listing, because we were, too."

The listing was removed on Sunday and the individuals involved in the post were terminated for violating company policy.

Employment discrimination based on race, ethnicity, or skin tone is illegal.
