  • It garnered more than 1 million views on Twitter
  • Internet users praised the canine for its bravery

A stray Indian dog was seen in a video fighting a lioness and running away unscathed.

The one-and-a-half-minute long clip showing the canine and the lioness getting into a fight was shared on Twitter by Indian Forest Officer Parveen Kaswan. Kaswan cheekily captioned it as: "Need this much confidence in life."

The short clip showed the lioness chasing the dog as jeep-borne tourists watched from a distance. The dog was filmed consistently barking to fend off the lioness as a fierce altercation breaks out between them. At one point, the lioness pauses briefly before charging again at the canine. The dog then charges back while barking even louder, which baffles the lioness and it takes a few steps back. The canine uses the opportunity and quickly flees the scene.

The post has racked up more than 1 million views on Twitter and users took to its comment section to laud the dog’s bravado. "Apt example of size doesn't matter. What matters at the end of the day is your confidence," one user said.

"Dogs are cat killers and lions are just bugger cats. The instinct would be natural," one user noted.

Some users also theorized that the lion mightn’t have been hungry at that time so it let go of the canine. "not only confidence but "luck" too as Lion not necessarily hungry all the time :-)" one user said.

“Looks like they weren't looking for food or else he would have become their lunch,” said another.

In 2020, a pair of honey badgers fighting a pride of lions had gone viral after the clip of the encounter was posted on Twitter by Indian Forest Services officer Susanta Nanda. The video showed one lioness pouncing on a honey badger, which manages to break free and fearlessly attacks the lioness, forcing it to back off. As soon as the lioness steps back, the honey badgers square off the whole pride, forcing them to retreat.
