The dollar extended losses against the yen, briefly dipping to a session low, after data showed an index of manufacturing activity in New York State fell by more than expected in November.

A report showing a bigger-than-expected increase in U.S. retail sales in October may have limited the losses, however.

The dollar fell to 89.37 yen JPY=, its session trough, from about 89.50 before the data. The euro was trading at $1.4952 EUR=, down slightly from around $1.4960 before the data.
