Donald Trump says he treated coronavirus “very seriously” from the start, but Twitter users don't agree with him.

On Tuesday, the president of the United States said during a press conference, “I’ve always known this is a real — this is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic,” Vox first reported.

On Wednesday, he took to Twitter and shared his disposition about the coronavirus outbreak. The POTUS said that he has always treated the pandemic very seriously downplaying his previous statements when he called it a “hoax.”

“I always treated the Chinese Virus very seriously, and have done a very good job from the beginning, including my very early decision to close the “borders” from China - against the wishes of almost all. Many lives were saved. The Fake News new narrative is disgraceful & false!” Trump wrote.

Trump’s post on social media was flooded with comments; thousands of comments reminded him how he treated the issue weeks ago.

“Scary to watch President Trump re-write history as it is happening, as if we do not have video of him mocking coronavirus up until days ago, and: REPUBLICAN SENATE STILL BLOCKING FIRST NECESSARY BILL TO INCREASE CAPACITY & ACCESS TO TESTING and EMERGENCY RELIEF FOR HOURLY WORKERS,” economist David Rothschild commented.

“Trump called the coronavirus a hoax and basically said, “it’s just the flu, bro.” Now he is lying and saying that he always took it seriously. He is pivoting towards xenophobia and racism to blame Chinese people, and by extension, all Asian Americans too. We’re his scapegoats,” @eugenegu added.

Jennifer Rubin, a conservative opinon writer at The Washington Post and MSNBC contributor, commented that it was a “lie.” “This is a lie. You squandered 8-12 weeks. More Americans will die. Your failure is the greatest blunder in presidential history,” she wrote.

Trump has compared coronavirus to the common flu. In another post on Twitter, he said there were more deaths due to the common flu in the past years, but nothing was shutdown and life and economy went on. The same post was criticized by many who reminded him that there is no vaccine or antiviral drug for COVID-19.
