Elodie Yung, who appeared in the 2013 film “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” has been selected to play Elektra in Season 2 of the Marvel series “Daredevil” on Netflix. The character was mentioned in Season 1 by Daredevil/Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). However, Variety confirmed that Elektra will finally appear on the series in Season 2.

Originally played by Jennifer Garner in the 2003 “Daredevil” movie and its 2005 spinoff, Elektra on Netflix will be “a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle,” Marvel described in its official statement.

With her remarkable physique and psychological complexity, Yung is the perfect actress for the role, said Jeph Loeb, executive producer and head of Marvel Television. “Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for,” Loeb said.

Meanwhile, Elektra won't be the only character to debut in Season 2. In an interview for Season 1, Cox told "Entertainment Tonight" he wanted Frank Castle to be part of the show. Last week, it was revealed that Castle, aka the Punisher, will be featured in Season 2, played by Jon Bernthal from “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “The Walking Dead.”

Yung also appeared in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and “District 13: Ultimatum.”

Season 2 of “Daredevil” will kick off in 2016. Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
