So much for family comes first. The Lyon family is ready to roar and business is about to turn personal in "Empire" Season 2. Fox released a brand new trailer for the show's sophomore season ... and it's certainly not light on drama.

Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious (Terrence Howard) are ready to square off once again in the latest clip. And fans of the hot and cold couple will definitely be surprised by the interaction between them. In the first few seconds of the trailer, Lucious reveals that he "never stopped loving Cookie."

"You miss me?" Cookies asks.

"You always were ride or die....always," Lucious says with a serious stare in his orange prison suit.

While that hot mess of a relationship heats up, Andre (Trai Byers) is looking to remove his father from CEO of Empire. And surprise, surprise, he's trying to take charge himself with the help of Cookie. However, it looks like not everyone likes that idea. Lucious is trying to maintain control of his company and pass it along to his son Jamal (Jussie Smollett). He tells Jamal that the situation with his brother needs to be "handled." But fortunately Lucious has someone on the outside that has the same goals to keep the power out of Andre's hands.

“Lucious Lyon is Empire, without him the company is nothing,” says new character Mimi Whiteman, played by Season 2 guest star Marisa Tomei.

Tomei's not the only exciting guest star to be featured in the Season 2 trailer. Viewers also get a sneak peek at Chris Rock, who plays one of Lucious' fellow inmates. Rapper Ludacris also appears in the trailer as a prison guard ... and it doesn't look like he'll be on the best of terms with the Lyon patriarch.

Finally, the promo shows an intense standoff between Lucious’ sons Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) and Jamal. Hakeem claims he’s going to become bigger than Jamal and Lucious, while Jamal says he’s going to “bury,” Hakeem’s new album. Only time will tell if one of them rises to the top.

What will unfold next for the Lyon family? "Empire" Season 2 premieres on Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
