  • Michele and Rivera were co-stars on the hit TV show "Glee"

It seems Lea Michele is taking a step back from social media.

The “Glee” star suddenly deactivated her Twitter account without telling her fans that she would be taking a break from the micro-blogging website. As of late, the actress has not come out with an explanation as to why she deactivated her account. However, some netizens believe that Michele left because of the negative comments she received after the disappearance of Naya Rivera.

According to The Independent, the “Glee” star was allegedly getting a lot of hate messages from social media users since Rivera went missing. The media outlet pointed out that many of the messages urged Michele to speak out regarding her co-star’s disappearance while others used abusive words to attack her.

Some of Michele’s fans took to the social networking platform and criticized those who were trolling the actress even if she had nothing to do with Rivera’s disappearance. One user noted that the “Scream Queens” star might have deactivated her account because some people allegedly wanted her to drown instead of Rivera. The user called them “sick” for saying such things.

“Lea Michele deactivated because people were commenting on her posts 'it should've been you instead of naya' y'all are [explicit] sick," the Twitter user wrote.

Meanwhile, another user shared that it was not Michele’s fault that Rivera went missing and claimed that the actress must be just as upset as the rest of the “Glee” cast.

“Lea Michele has deactivated her twitter due to be being trolled about Naya Rivera. Has she behaved badly in the past? Yes. She's owned it and is trying to be better. She's also pregnant. Is it her fault that Naya's missing? No. I'm sure she's as upset as the rest of the ‘Glee’ cast,” the netizen wrote.

Apart from social media users, actress Amber Riley also subtly addressed Michele’s move to deactivate her Twitter account. Although the actress did not name anyone specifically in her tweet, fans claimed that she was talking about Michele in her message.

Riley wrote that people should show some respect and focus on the “devastating” incident that has taken place rather than focusing on which star tweeted about Rivera.

“Show some respect. All our energy is going toward helping find Naya and praying for her safe return and for her family. No one owes anyone online performance of grief. This is very real and devastating. Focus on Naya and her family. Not us. We don't matter right now,” Riley wrote on social media.

Rivera, 33, is presumed dead after going missing on July 8. She and her son Josey, 4, were boating in Lake Piru at the time of the incident.
