President Donald Trump is facing backlash from Florida residents on Twitter after assuming they’re doing well when it comes to COVID-19.

Trump started comparing those states that are locked-down currently, to those that are not. He’s accused those states that are on a strict lock-down to be rising in cases more than those states that aren’t on a strict lock-down, which rubbed many Americans the wrong way.

Florida, which is not under a current lockdown, is a state that has a population of 21.48 million people as of 2019 and has had 1.25 million positive cases and almost 21,000 deaths.

California, which is in lockdown, has a population of 39.51 million people that’s had 2.06 million COVID-19 cases and almost 24,000 deaths.

When looking at those numbers, they aren’t too far apart, which is one reason many Floridians are upset with Trump’s statements.

As of Dec. 25, almost 92,000 new positive cases throughout the U.S. were reported as well as almost 1,130 new deaths, according to the New York Times.

Another essential aspect to note is that Trump, the First Lady and their son, will most likely be calling Mar-A-Largo in Florida their new home once they leave the White House in January.

The couple already changed their permanent address to Florida from New York in 2019 because Trump has a private club in Palm Beach, Florida.

His reasoning for calling out Florida specifically in his tweet is unknown, but his connection to the state could be part of it.
