Former White House physician and U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, predicted that President Joe Biden may either step down from the presidency or be forced to resign in the near future, following criticism of Biden’s reported difficulties in providing clear answers in a recent media briefing.

Jackson, who represents Texas's 13th congressional district, was the White House physician for former presidents Donald Trump and Barrack Obama, and was a U.S. Navy rear admiral.

In an interview with host Sean Hannity on Fox’s “Hannity” show Thursday, Jackson said, “I think he’s either going to resign, they’re going to convince him to resign from office at some point in the near future,” The Hill reported. He added that the 25th Amendment may be used “to get rid of this man right now.”

The 25th Amendment allows the vice-president to become acting president when a president is unable to continue his duties because he becomes incapacitated due to a physical or mental illness. Some Democrats had called for using the 25th Amendment against then President Trump following the Capitol riot Jan. 6.

During the interview, Hannity pointed out that some of Biden’s responses to media questions at the CNN town hall last week were “completely incomprehensible.” Hannity said he believed Biden will not do well on a cognitive test that Trump previously aced.

A day after the interview, Jackson tweeted a video of the president answering questions during the CNN town hall interview, commenting that Biden should take a cognitive exam “and release the results.”

And on Sunday, Jackson tweeted another video of Biden with the comment: "He’s completely lost it! Needs a cognitive exam now!"

Republicans have claimed that Biden, who, at 78, is the oldest president in U.S. history, is not fit to serve as president. During his campaign rallies in 2020, Trump said his opponent was not mentally fit for the role.

Earlier this month, Biden’s struggle to respond to a reporter’s question on Russian hacking attempts raised concerns about his mental health, the New York Post reported. He was at a Michigan pie shop when he appeared confused when asked about the issue.

It took some moments before Biden could answer after he pulled out notes from his pocket to discuss the Russian hacking. Video of the exchange with the reporter went viral, with critics noting that this isn’t the first time the U.S. president appeared to be losing his thoughts.

Last month, Jackson and 13 other Republicans sent a letter to Biden’s office, urging the president to take a cognitive test and provide the public with more insights about his cognitive abilities, USA Today reported.

In the letter, the Republicans wrote that all presidents should follow in Trump’s footsteps. The former president said last year that he had asked for and taken a cognitive test and passed it, defending his mental fitness to hold office.

In 2019, Biden’s doctor released a medical report that said Biden was “fit to successfully execute the duties of the presidency.” Mental deficiencies were reportedly not mentioned in the report. He is due for another physical exam this year and the Biden administration vowed transparency on the matter.
