George Clooney
George Clooney won the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes on Sunday. Can he do it again at the Oscars? PA

The Artist and The Descendants split the top prizes at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards ceremony, which was hosted by a milder Ricky Gervais than we saw in 2011.

The Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy winners will likely meet again in the same category as Academy Award nominees for Best Picture, which will be announced on Jan. 24. Lead actors George Clooney and Jean Dujardin each won their respective categories; they too will likely face off at the Oscars. All told, the Golden Globes did little to tip the scales in favor of one film or the other as the Oscar Best Picture favorite.

There were no earth-shattering surprises on the Golden Globes winners list, though some eyebrows were raised when Matt LeBlanc won Best Actor in a comedy television series for Episodes. (Those who have seen the show will be less surprised.) Homeland took the Best Television Series - Drama award, and Claire Danes represented with a Best Actress prize. Indeed, it was a good night for Showtime, but certainly not a shutout: Laura Dern won the comedic actress award for HBO's Enlightened, and Kelsey Grammer took the acting prize for his lead role in Boss, the groundbreaking Starz original series.

Stay tuned for a morning-after postmortem. In the meantime, here are the winners:
