NBC has released the synopsis for the two-episode Season 2 premiere of “The Good Place.”

According to the logline for the season opener, Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) settle into the Good Place for the second time. But having had their memories erased by ambitious master architect, Michael (Ted Danson), in the Season 1 finale, none of them remembers the events that took place last season. Michael, however, has something to be worried about as Eleanor discovers the one clue she had left for herself and tries to figure out what previously transpired.

Although it doesn’t seem that Eleanor will find out early in the new season that she’s actually in the Bad Place, series creator Michael Schur previously revealed to Entertainment Weekly that it won’t take long before Eleanor will be reunited with her soulmate, Chidi.

Schur said that Eleanor’s note to herself, which says “Eleanor, find Chidi,” helps her locate Chidi sooner than later. “She has found Chidi because of the note and has some questions [for Michael],” said Schur. “[But Michael] is trying to do his … thing and try to spin his way out of those questions.”

NBC aired a sneak peek for the upcoming season last month, and in it, Eleanor gets the note she left for herself from Janet (D'Arcy Carden). As expected, Eleanor wants to know more about the message, but Eleanor forgets Janet’s name, and can’t summon the celestial guide back.

Meanwhile, in another scene from the sneak peek, Michael receives a video call from his boss, who is checking up on Michael’s new version of the Bad Place. “We’re keeping everything from version 1 that made them miserable, adding a bunch of new stuff that they’ll hate,” Michael tells his boss. “Plus, they will all have new soulmates, of course. You gotta trust me on this, boss. I’ve thought of everything. I won’t let you down.”

“I think you will,” replies Michael’s superior with a straight face. “I think this entire project of yours is stupid and doomed to fail. I think you’re going to be retired, eliminated from existence … And I have no doubt that you and your … experiment will go down as colossal failures.”

Clearly, Michael wants to defend himself and his project, but his boss abruptly ends the call before he can even talk.

“The Good Place” Season 2 premieres with a back-to-back episode on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC. Watch the sneak peek below:
