Alan Rickman has played Professor Severus Snape in all the Harry Potter films. However, as Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 is unveiled, many are buzzing about Rickman's performance.

Probably the most fascinating figure in the Potter world because of his shifting alliances and an emotional depth that's unexpected given his icy demeanor. Rickman is captivating in the role, with his droll, deadpan delivery that oozes condescending menace, Christy Lemire, AP Movie Critic, wrote for the San Francisco Chronicles. He is being praised for his dynamic and convincing performance by virtually every critic. If any actors stand a chance for an Oscar nomination in 2012 it'll be Alan Rickman and Ralph Fiennes, said Gregg Kilday, a film editor for the Hollywood Reporter. ...these guys have the acting chops and the Hollywood stature to stand a fighting chance, he continued.

Could this mean... an Oscar nom?

Truth be told, Rickman's co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, was the first to suggest such a proposal in a recent press conference. The performance I found the most moving was Alan Rickman's. I do think it's the performance of his career.I think he should get nominations for best supporting actor because it's so touching and beautiful what he does. I'm really thrilled to share the screen with him, the actor shared. Though the thought of a nomination would be nice and well deserving, it still looks unlikely. Historically, these kinds of kids' or genre films have never been big Oscar winners. Voters have never felt they were deserving of an Academy Award, said Richard Course, a Canada AM movie critic. He continues saying: It's not to say that 'Deathly Hallows: Part 2 isn't worthy of an Oscar nomination. But I don't think we'll see any acting or directing nods this year for the Potter gang.

The 65 year old British actor was previously nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2004 for his performance in Something the Lord Made staring Mos Def. He is also well-known for his roles in Die Hard, Michael Collins and Robin Hood. Since the reviews for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 have been completely positive for Rickman, maybe, just maybe...he will get this most prestigious recognition. But if not, fans around the world are and will always be charmed by their favorite wizard films and their favorite (scary) professor!
