Reality show fans got their first taste of Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson in 2012 on the TLC series “Toddlers & Tiaras.” Since then, the nickname has become synonymous with the Georgia-based family who shared their country lifestyle with the world.

On Saturday, Alana will celebrate her 16th birthday and welcome in a new year full of opportunities. Check out what’s next for the reality star below.

She No Longer Wants To Be Known As Honey Boo Boo.

After Alana and her family got their own show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” viewers began calling her “Honey Boo Boo Child.” However, as she gets ready to celebrate a milestone birthday, she wants people to stop calling her by the nickname.

“My mama did not name me Honey Boo Boo. My name is Alana,” she told Teen Vogue in an interview.

She insisted she is no longer the pageant competing toddler fueled by “go-go juice.”

“They are completely two different people,” she said. “I would say that I do like this Alana now, rather than the younger Alana.”

Alana Is Repairing Her Relationship With Her Mom

During the interview, Alana revealed she is working on getting her relationship with her mother, June Shannon, “back on track.”

“When my mama got real bad with her [drug use], I didn’t know where I was going to end up,” she said. “I’m proud of myself for how far I’ve come.”

In 2019, June was arrested on drug paraphernalia charges and possession of a controlled substance. Following her arrest, Alana’s sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, was awarded legal guardianship of the minor.

“A lot of folks in this world do not realize how many people are actually really affected by drug and alcohol [use],” Alana explained. “It’s very, very hard. It’s something I’d wish on nobody, for real.”

She Will Stick With Reality Television For Now

When she gets older, Alana wants to become a nurse. However, before she can start her career in the medical field, she wants to graduate high school, move out at age 18, purchase a car and then a house, and go to college.

Despite her plans for the future, Alana will continue to appear on reality television because of the big paycheck.

“I want to have a life, you know? I want to be able to support my kids when I do have kids and stuff like that,” she said. “It’s definitely something that is good for the time being, [and] good for later on in life.”
