Prince William and Kate Middleton enjoy being hands-on parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. However, the parents are determined to give their kids a normal childhood, which is difficult due to their royal titles.

Despite the challenges, Kate and William have made decisions that have allowed their children to have semi-private lives.

In the documentary, “Kate: The Making of a Modern Queen,” Catherine Mayer claimed that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have done a good job at keeping the public happy while trying to have private lives.

Although the couple has been successful, they must make every decision carefully to avoid backlash. “It seems, to me, an enormous challenge for all of the young royals, but in particular for William and Kate to find a way to do the empathy thing,” she explained.

“To do what is seen as being their core role of performing a charitable role, and maintaining something they are clearly set to do, which is redefining how much of themselves they make public. They are trying to carve out space for themselves to have a private family life.”

Since their children have been born, the couple has made efforts to keep special moments private. In the past, Kate and Prince William have shared photos of Prince George and Prince Charlotte’s first days of school, rather than having the children do a photocall.

“They are also very interestingly positioning themselves for the age that they are in, the era in which they are in the public eye, which is a social media-saturated, Instagram, selfie era,” Mayer shared.

“They are, in some way, going very much against the tide on that – trying to reclaim something for themselves. That is potentially quite a clever thing to do in the long run.”

Prince William and Kate will continue to face the challenges of trying to give their children normal lives over the next few years. So far, the couple has been successful in giving the public access to their lives, while managing to keep certain moments private.
