A gunman in Northern Illinois shot and killed himself early Sunday after a standoff with police at Super 8 motel. The man, who has been identified as Antonio Wilson, 35, shot and killed one person and wounded two others at the motel in Rockford, Illinois, and later exchanged gunfire in a nearly six-hour overnight standoff with law enforcement.

Police first responded to the incident following reports of gunfire late Saturday. At about 6:30 a.m Sunday, police forced their way into Wilson’s room, finding him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot. A 19-year-old man had been shot and killed. Two women, ages 46 and 34, were also shot but are not facing life-threatening injuries.

According to Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea, responding officers were attempting to evacuate the premises when Wilson opened fire on them. Wilson’s weapon was reportedly powerful enough to puncture both side sides of the motel’s walls.

Wilson was pronounced dead at 7:50 a.m. on Sunday by the Winnebago County Coroner, while his victim was pronounced dead at 1:18 a.m., according to local reports.

On the same night in Rockwood, a teenager was charged with first-degree murder of a 21-year-old during a deadly Stop-N-Go gas station robbery.
