He’s here! On Sunday's finale of TLC’s three-part Duggar special, “Jill & Jessa: Counting On,” Jessa Seewald gave birth to her baby boy. While the event was a joyous one for the former “19 Kids and Counting” star, it wasn’t an easy delivery.

Episode 3 kicks off with Jessa being 39 weeks pregnant. Her husband, Ben Seewald, says he’s nervous for their child’s arrival. While they await their first-born, they speak out about their desire to adopt. Ben shares a dream of his to have 19 sons, and Jessa says she would “love to” have that many boys. They reveal they’re planning to look into adoption further in the coming year.

Meanwhile, Jill and Derick Dillard continue their mission trip in Central America. They take some time away from attending language school to volunteer at a children’s home. Derick says he can relate to Jessa and Ben’s desire to adopt. Jill agrees, saying they’re “definitely open” to the idea of adopting a child to join their son Israel and teases that they could leave their mission trip as a “family of four or five.”

When Jill, a trained midwife, calls Jessa to check in on her, Jessa has a contraction. Jill says her sister’s contractions don’t mean she’s in labor yet.

Three days after her due date, Jessa says she’s having regular contractions. Two of Jessa’s sisters, Jana and Jinger Duggar, stop by her Arkansas home to help her manage the pain. The group decides to go out speed-walking, and Jessa wonders if she’s going to “walk the baby out.” When they return, Jessa’s labor progresses and she phones her birth team.

After nearly 20 hours in labor, Jana, who is also trained in midwifery, says Jessa has been “quite the trouper” throughout her home birth. When their mother Michelle Duggar arrives, she agrees that her daughter is doing great in labor. She also remarks how well Ben is handling the situation. “He was solid. He was there. He stuck by her side,” Michelle says.

With 27 hours of labor under her belt, Jessa starts pushing. She lies in her bed with Ben behind her, Jana by her side and Jill on a video chat. Despite being in tremendous pain, Jessa says pushing makes her feel encouraged and that she’s not going to be pregnant for “the rest of my life.”

After the delivery, Ben calls the Duggars to let them know what sex the baby is. He tells Jordyn, Jessa’s buddy, the big news first.

“It was a really sweet moment. I got to snuggle with him for a while,” Jessa says. “Then things kinda changed a little bit.”

Michelle can be heard telling a 911 operator that Jessa is bleeding after birth. She says her daughter is alert and that the baby is fine, but that Jessa released a “gush of blood.” Ben recalls the situation, admitting the entire ordeal made him “a lot nervous.”

Jana, the eldest of the Duggar girls, admits the situation put her into “panic mode.”

“There have been probably a couple of births that I have seen where a mom has just a little more blood than what she should. But in this case, I think this was the most that I'd seen," Jana says as she watches her sister ride off in an ambulance. "I was thinking of these other situations where things had happened and I was like OK, this can’t happen to my sister."

Due to feeling light-headed, Jessa receives a blood transfusion in the hospital. She says she feels “90 percent” back to herself afterward. Jessa says her son’s size — he weighed in 9 pounds, 11 ounces at birth — most likely made her labor difficult.

The episode ends with Jessa’s 19 siblings coming to meet her son — whom the couple later named Spurgeon Elliot.

“I can’t believe he’s ours,” Jessa remarks. “It seems like a dream.”
