The airing of the new Dallas, an up-to-date version of the 1980s hit soap opera starring much of the original cast along with Jordana Brewster, is less than a month away -- and Brewster has to be hoping the series will jump-start a stalled career.

The actress may be known more for her rankings on the hot lists of men's magazines than for her roles in films such as The Faculty and The Fast And The Furious movies.

In Dallas, premiering June 13 on TNT, Brewster plays Elena Ramos, whom she described to as a proud, beautiful woman with a whirring Swiss timepiece for a mind.

Ramos is the romantic interest of John Ross Ewing III, played by Josh Henderson.

Much of the original cast of Dallas, which aired from 1978 until 1991, appear in the updated version. The old show is one of the most popular in television history. The Who Shot J.R.? plotline captivated viewers with more than 90 million people watching the episode that resolved the 1980 cliffhanger.

Larry Hagman reprises his role of J.R. Ewing in the new Dallas, Linda Gray is back as Sue Ellen Ewing, and Patrick Duffy returns as Bobby Ewing.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Gray revealed the original cast members were not in other acting projects after the show ran its course because they were so strongly identified by their roles on Dallas.

We thought we'd never work together again, Gray said. In fact, we'd been purposely kept apart as actors because people so closely associated us with those old 'Dallas' roles.

While the new show includes original cast members who play their old characters, the show is not considered a reboot,
