Lee DeWyze, last year's American Idol winner, refused to hand out what he said was a next-to-last minute request to hand out the winner's trophy to this year's winner Scotty McCreery, a move made the show's producer very upset.

I was not asked to be involved in the Finale, DeWyze said in a posting linkd to his Twitter account on Thursday. It wasn't until about 2 minutes before they announced that Nigel had approached me and asked if he could borrow me for a second. I didn't feel a last second jump on stage was appropriate. It was Scotty's moment, DeWyze said in a posting linked to his Twitter account.

On Wednesday, American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe expressed his disappointment at DeWyze's refusal.

I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn't present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he'd been on the show this Season. I guess he was shy, Lythgoe said in a post to his Twitter account.

I'm not angry, or bitter etc. It was an amazing Finale, and I would have loved to be a part of it. I just wasn't asked, Dewyze said.

DeWyze tweeted on Monday that in response to a lot of questions he was divulging that no I'm not performing at the Finale.

In the next several tweets he noted how he was looking forward to going to the Finale. Reports indicate he was seated in the fifth row.
